Detailed description
Picture "Body" (2020)
With his print graphic "Body," Jonas Burgert presents a work full of mystery and tension. The artist employs the elements of ancient sculptures but, at the same time, isolates his female nude in a timeless pictorial space, thus denying the narrative a clear readability.
Burgert skilfully continues the ambivalence of the work in the distorted posture of the naked female body, which oscillates between erotic sensuality and painful gestures.
This enigmatic nude impresses with its precise artistic elaboration, its narrative potential and its atmospheric density, which inevitably captivates the viewer.

About Jonas Burgert
The creatures of painter and sculptor Jonas Burgert (born in 1969) cavort in the midst of fantastic plays of colour and merciless rounds. In the masterfully composed, large-scale paintings of the Berlin artist, big-city scenes meet gaunt figures that could just as easily have sprung from Christian or East Asian myths. Burgert uses neon colours to bring these sometimes nightmarish, sometimes fairytale-like beings into the present. The individual disappears in the midst of an alienating ritual.
