About Lucio Fontana
Lucio Fontana (1899-1968), who was born in Argentina and moved to Italy with his family, is considered one of the most important pioneers of Nouveau Réalisme and Arte Povera. "Concetto spaziale" - "spatial concept" is the overriding theme in Lucio Fontana's oeuvre. He explores the effect and perception of space with his slit and pierced canvases and sculptures.
Fontana devoted himself to a conceptual, clear, and always monochrome design, a method of working that was hitherto hardly known in the art world. He thus broke with the foundations of traditional painting and inspired the German artist group "ZERO" around Günther Uecker, Otto Piene and Heinz Mack.
Term for paintings and sculptures that are detached from representational depiction, which spread across the entire western world and parts of the eastern world from around 1910 onwards in ever new stylistic variations. The Russian painter Wassily Kandinsky, born in 1866, is considered the founder of abstract art. Other important artists of abstract art are K.S. Malewitsch, Piet Mondrian, and others.
