About Herbert Brandl
Herbert Brandl (* 1959 in Graz) is an Austrian painter of the Neue Wilde movement and is one of the most important Austrian representatives of Neo-Expressionism. Brandl studied at the University of Applied Arts Vienna. He has been a professor at the Düsseldorf Art Academy since 2004.
From the mid-1980s, Herbert Brandl took part in major international exhibitions. These include the Biennale de Paris, 1985, Musée d'Art de la Ville de Paris, 1990 and documenta IX. In 2007 he was represented in the Austrian Pavilion at the Biennale di Venezia.
Works by Herbert Brandl can be found in the collections of the Stedelijk Museum voor Actuele Kunst, Ghent, Museum Würth, Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris, Albertina, Vienna, Kunsthalle Bern, Bern and the Essl Museum - Kunst der Gegenwart, Klosterneuburg/Vienna, among others.
