Gerhard Richter: "Clouds"
Gerhard Richter was also inspired by this in 1968 and created the work “Clouds”. He mounted two photographs taken from an airplane window during a trip to Milan in such a way that the upper motif is rotated by 180° and a new image is created.
This graphic was created as a contribution to a portfolio that contained works by all the lecturers at the Hamburg University of Fine Arts at the time and was published in 1970. Richter had been a guest lecturer there since 1967 before being appointed professor of painting at the Düsseldorf Art Academy in 1971.
The offset lithograph is limited to 300 copies and represents a "special work" by the most sought-after contemporary artist, which combines several levels: art-historical significance and human longings.
