Marc Chagall: "Le Bouquet bleu" (1974)

Marc Chagall once described his painting as the ‘happy vision of a desirable world’ and saw it as a counter-image to reality.

Today, Chagall is one of the greatest masters of the 20th century, a myth-teller of incredible creative power and a painterly poet.

"Le Bouquet bleu"
A window to love

A deep, vibrant blue pervades the scene, in the centre of which a lush bouquet of flowers seems to float. In front of it, a couple are joined in silent tenderness. The window in the background is one of Chagall's oldest motifs. It is both a boundary and an opening, a transition between inside and outside, intimacy and expanse.

Chagall's lithograph not only transports colour but light itself. This is its special value. "Le Bouquet Bleu" is not only a picture of love, but also an investment in timeless beauty.
